The mission of Lunar Test Article -  Eight (LTA-8)  was to test the Lunar Module in a simulated space environment under Apollo mission conditions. Four tests were performed successfully in the vacuum / thermal chamber B at the Manned Space Center, Houston, by Astronaut James Irwin and Grumman consulting LM pilot Gerald P. Gibbons.
