Captain Joachim Blankenburg and a crew of three are catapulted from a               German ship in the Azores and fly to Port Washington, Long Island. Germany      (Lufthansa) thus becomes the first Nation to conduct commercial survey              flights over the Atlantic, September 16, 1936.
